My Journey:
From Dance to Yoga, and Everything in Between
Hello there! I'm Katie, and I want to take you on a journey through my diverse career and life experiences. It's been an incredible ride, and I'm eternally grateful for every step of the way.
The Early Years:
My love for performing was born at a young age. I was always the creative one, and "stage shows" were a regular occurrence in our household, much to my sister's amusement! 😂 From those early days, I never looked back.
I embarked on a competitive dance journey with unwavering support from my family. Together, we traveled across the UK and beyond, visiting destinations like Ireland, Sweden, Holland, and the USA for events and competitions. At just 15 years old, I clinched my first World Championship title at UCWDC in Nashville, Tennessee. This marked the beginning of my journey to winning European, British, and World class titles as a solo dancer. These accomplishments led me to the top category, Division 1 Allstars, before I pursued a professional dance career, graduating with a BA(Hons) Degree in Dance. 📜
Professional Dance and Beyond:
Post-graduation, I was fortunate to work on various professional stage and screen projects as a Dancer, Choreographer, and Manager, both in the UK and around the world. 🎬🌍 Some personal highlights include:
Dancing in a Bollywood movie, 'Mausam.'
Appearing in an ITV2 advert.
Performing on 'The Galaxy' Cruise Ship in Madrid and the Baltic Sea with Quickstep Productions Show Team.
Featuring in the Hollywood movie 'Hitman - Agent 47.'
Taking part in the 'A Taste of Scotland Show' at Prestonfield House Edinburgh.
Becoming a long-term resident dancer with 'Bags of Rock,' with performances in Malaysia, Ukraine, and the 80s Rewind Festival.
A role in BBC Crime Drama 'Case Histories.'
Serving as Belle's understudy in 'Beauty & The Beast' at Eden Court Theatre.
Making an appearance in 'The Only Way is Essex' music video.
Participating in 'The Murray Grant Dancers,' which allowed me to perform in high-end corporate venues like 'The Cafe de Paris' in London, Glenlivet, Gleneagles, and the Aberdeen Exhibition Conference Centre. 🎵
An incredible opportunity came my way when I was offered a choreography contract by Gala Entertainment Management. This took me to Asia, where I worked as a PR & Talents manager in Clarke Quay, Singapore's Entertainment Capital.
In this role, I rubbed shoulders with the likes of Katy Perry and the Prince of Brunei! 😱 During my years in Singapore, I had the privilege of working for two leading lifestyle and entertainment companies, 'Lifebrandz' and 'The Quayside Group,' holding managerial positions in both. This experience exposed me to various facets of the industry and included highlights like filming a documentary alongside TV Personality 'Jamie Yeo,' judging auditioning bands, and being interviewed for 'GuizHou' TV China, reaching an audience of 32 million viewers. 📺
Despite these high-profile encounters and a glamorous lifestyle, I've always cherished being grounded, and the best compliment I've received is that I'm 'down to earth.' 🙏🏻🥰🧘🏼
The Return to the UK and Beyond:
Upon returning to the UK, I transitioned to working behind the scenes in fantastic productions as a coordinator and production assistant for PDF Productions, Tonight from the West End Productions, and Beyond Broadway Productions.
I juggled multiple responsibilities and even managed to complete a Diploma in Live Events & Promotions while working full-time at The MGA Academy of Performing Arts in Edinburgh as the Production Assistant and Agency Assistant for MGA Management & Casting. A highlight during this time was traveling to New York with the team for their Personal & Professional Development Trip 🏙 – one of my favorite trips to date.
The Transition to Coaching and Yoga:
My journey took an unexpected turn with the arrival of my identical twin boys, a life-changing event that would ultimately lead me to my true calling – yoga.
Carrying twins presented both physical and mental challenges, and after a C-section, I underwent two abdominal surgeries. It was during this demanding period of recovery and isolation that I found solace in teaching dancers at Nu Moves Dance Studios, West Lothian's largest and leading dance school.
Simultaneously, I discovered YogaBellies, a comprehensive approach to women's well-being that encompassed yoga practices, breathing techniques, mindfulness, shadow work, self-improvement, and nutrition.
In parallel, I made significant life choices, including switching to a plant-based diet 🥒🥦 and eliminating alcohol - a surprising and positive change. I embraced an alcohol-free lifestyle for four years and never once regretted it. Despite my past life in entertainment and parties, I now find fulfillment in healthier pursuits - balance being key! 😜
Today, I'm a Senior Yogabellies Teacher & Teacher Trainer, helping deliver the Empower Programme and contributing globally by training other Yogabellies teachers. I hold a YTT 300Hrs certification and am also a certified Les Mills Body Balance and Body Combat instructor. I'm passionate about helping others through my own experiences. In my free time, I enjoy paddleboarding 🏄🏼 and relishing life to the fullest.
KDB Energy:
The Culmination: KDB Energy represents the culmination of everything I've learned along this extraordinary journey. I can't wait to see what the future holds and where our next destination will be on this incredible adventure. 💃🏼🌍
